Mower racing action draws crowd

The novelty of racing ride-on lawn mowers drew dozens of spectators in the sunshine to the Millicent Showgrounds recently.

The South Australian Ride-on Lawnmowers Association established a track at Millicent one year ago to coincide with the staging of the 2019 Millicent Show.

The show was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns, but the scheduled racing of modified ride-on lawn mowers proceeded.

Participants and their go-kart-like contraptions came from as far away as Adelaide to compete.

Spectators were thrilled by the high-octane action with the Mowers at Millicent event putting on a show across three classes.

Catering was in the hands of the Millicent Lions Club and commercial providers, while some staging chores were undertaken by Millicent Show Society officials.

Last month, the equestrian community gathered at the Millicent show-grounds for a weekend of show-jumping.
