Mundulla steps closer to securing top two spot

Round 13 of the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League saw a round of the top teams getting the victories.

Mundulla took a step closer to cementing a top two spot before the finals.

The Tigers came up against the reigning champions Border Districts and proved to be too strong by recording a 53 point victory over the Eagles.

The first quarter was a tight contest but the Tigers opened up the game in the second quarter and ran away with the victory.

Nathan Studham led the way with five goals for the victors.

Darcy King added four goals in a consistent performance.

The best players for Mundulla were Reagan Tink, Nathan Studham and Dylan Mosey.

Border Districts managed to kick only four goals for the game.

They got single goals through Mackenzie Bower, Mark Quinn, Zac Richards and Daniel Schoenmakers.

Bordertown put in a dominant performance against Naracoorte to record a big 120 point victory.

The Roosters piled on seven first quarter goals and never looked back.

Bordertown had a good spread of multiple goal kickers as seven players kicked at least two goals during the game.

Billy Hayes put through five goals and Thomas Whittlesea added four goals to be the two leading goal kickers for the Roosters.

Bordertown had some great players who led the way with Billy Hayes, Harrison Fromm and Carson Clark being named the top three players on the field.

Naracoorte struggled to score but Zac Walker was able to lead the way with two goals for the game.

Tommy Anderson, George White and Ralph Palma were the Demons’ best players.

Kybybolite overcame a quarter time deficit to record a big victory against Padthaway by 69 points. The Lions started the game as the better team in the first quarter that included 10 goals. The Lions put through six goals to give them a two goal lead at the first break.

The Tigers took control of the contest in the second quarter by putting through seven goals to the Lions’ nil to open up a 29 point lead by half time.

Kybybolite ran out the second half the better team and got a nice percentage boost.

Charlie Hillier and William Shepherd led the scoring in the victory with four goals.

Jack Trengove added three goals for the Tigers in a strong performance.

Twelve Tigers players were able to get on the score sheet during the game.

The Tigers’ best players were Oscar Clark, Jack Trengove and Jared Deep.

Jordan Bell led the Lions’ scoring with four goals and Tobin Cox helped keep the Lions competitive with three goals.

Padthaway’s best players were Danny Juckers, Jordan Bell and Jordan Hooper.

Kingston held on in a classic close game against Penola.

The Eagles threw everything against Kingston in the fourth quarter but the Saints defence held strong and were able to win by three points.

Todd Lockwood led the way in front of the goals for the Saints with three goals.

Campbell Watts and Jack Armfield kicked two goals each to help get the Saints across the line.

The Saints’ best players were Chris Draper, Thomas Rogers and James Siviour.

Penola battled hard all game long and Beau Shinnick and Brodie Foster led the Eagles’ scoring with two goals each.

The Eagles’ best players were Harrison Evans, Beau Shinnick and Jordan Galpin.

Keith overcame some inaccuracy in front of the goal to post a strong victory against Lucindale.

The Crows kicked 5-15 in the first half but straightened up in the second half to record an 81 point victory.

Aaron Young led the way with four goals in the victory.

Daniel Bibby, Lewis Hender, Blake Read and Riley Wilsdon helped with the scoring as they put through two goals each.

Cameron Craig, Aaron Young and Will Schreiber were the Crows’ best players.

Lucindale found it hard to find a strong goal kicking force during the game.

The Roos only recorded four goal kickers during the game with singles to Tom Fisher, Tom Logan, Luke May and Jack Yates.

The Roos’ best players were Josh Teakle, Nick Cane and Matt Kelsh.

Round 14 this weekend and all the eyes will be set on what happens in the Mundulla vs Keith game.

The Tigers can still finish top if they win all of their remaining games. The Crows will look to lock away the double chance as they mathematically can drop to fourth. The two teams have met quite a lot over the past few years in big games in the finals and it seems almost certain they will again once the finals begin.

Both teams have lots of star talent.

Jake McGrice, Darcy King, Nick Mosey, Nathan Studham and Elliot Jaeschke are just some of the Tigers to watch when Mundulla is playing.

Keith have the “ginger duo” in brothers Will and Seb Schreiber running around causing problems for the other team.

SANFL experienced Lewis Hender, Aaron Young and Cameron Craig have all had consistent years and will be pivotal if they are going to get over the Tigers on Saturday.

This contest is stacked with talent everywhere you look.

Daniel Bibby, George Johnson and Alex Schiller are other Crows in some good form at the moment.

Mundulla is a tough match up at home and last time the Tigers jumped the Crows in the first quarter and held them at arm’s length for the rest of the game.

The Crows will be determined to start stronger this time but at home I think the Tigers will just get across the line.

Naracoorte are at home to Border Districts and the Demons need a competitive performance to try and finish the season strong.

The Demons will find it tough as the Eagles will look to bounce back and find some form before the finals start.

The Eagles need one more win to seal a finals spot and this is the one game where they can find form and get that win.

Border Districts look to have too much firepower for the Demons to handle with Mark Quinn, Dylan Schoenmakers, Mackenzie Bower and Joshua Richards looking like they could kick a bag of goals this weekend.

The Demons have had some struggles this season but one of the shining lights has been Tommy Anderson who should be the favourite to win the Demons’ best and fairest.

Tommy has played 13 games and been named in the best 10 times.

Kai Schmiid, Matt Willson and Matthew Maney are others who will give an honest performance every week for the Demons.

I hope the Demons put on a great performance for their supporters but I think the Eagles should win this game by a big margin.

Padthaway hosts Bordertown in a game where the Roosters must win to keep their slim double chances alive.

The Lions have been competitive lately and they would have enjoyed having Tobin Cox back into the line up last Saturday.

Tobin kicked three goals and was named in the best against Kybybolite.

His importance to the Lions’ set up cannot be understated.

Bordertown will look to Jacob Eats to lead the forward line against his old team.

Jacob leads the league in the goal kicking and has put through 17 goals in his past three games.

If Padthaway cannot stop him then it will be a long afternoon for the Lions.

The Roosters look to have too much depth for the Lions and should get home in a good game of football.

Penola welcomes Kybybolite in a clash that seems a mismatch on paper.

The Tigers have been roaring lately and they will be confident of keeping the strong form going.

Stephen Craig did not play for Kybybolite last Saturday but it did not stop the Tigers from scoring a winning total.

Billy Laurie and Charlie Hillier can also get free to kick a bag for the Tigers if you let them.

Andrew Bradley, Jack Trengove, Jared Deep and Oscar Clark have had consistent good seasons for the Tigers.

Penola will need the likes of Jayden Eldridge, Bradley Bryant, Jordan Galpin, Beau Shinnick and Harrison Evans to have their best games combined to try and cause the upset of the year.

Brodie Foster and Garrett Ha will help put some scores on the board if they get enough delivery to them.

Jak Ryan is another who can get hot in front of the goals for the Eagles.

The Tigers’ depth across the board looks too powerful for the Eagles and should win by 5+ goals.

When Lucindale runs on to the field against Kingston on Saturday, the Roos will not have had a victory in over two months of football. Lucindale started the season with so much promise and were in a good position to challenge for a finals spot when the King’s holiday weekend came along in June.

Lucindale have not won a game since that weekend and are on a six game losing streak.

This week they face a Kingston team that has a few players back and has won two of their past three games.

James Siviour coming back into the Kingston line up has been a huge addition.

Chris Draper, Tom Rogers, Campbell Watts and William Watts are Saints players who are in good form at the moment.

The Roos will need to work hard to cut the Saints’ run out.

Scott Foord-Spriggs will be expected to use his run to get the ball forward for the Roos.

Tom Fisher, Jack Yates and Tom Logan will need to be consistent threats around the ground for the Roos to have any chance of victory.

Kingston looks like they have all the momentum and on the road will fancy their chances in a close game.
