Murder suspect charged as young mother’s death rocks Millicent

The family of an alleged Millicent murder victim have appealed to the public for donations to assist her three young children.

The GoFundMe page will benefit the dependents of Synamin Bell, 26, who was allegedly murdered over the weekend.

She was found deceased in her home in Poole Street, Millicent, late on Saturday night and her death was not witnessed by her children.

Her alleged assailant had earlier been located and secured at 11.15pm outside in Poole Street after police had received a tip-off.

The 25-year-old Millicent man was interviewed by detectives and charged with murder on Sunday at the Mount Gambier police station and refused police bail.

He is due to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today (Tuesday) when his identity is expected to be officially revealed.

Social media and some capital city media outlets have published the presumed name of the alleged offender as well as his Millicent-based workplace where he has been employed for a few years.

Limestone Coast Police Superintendent Campbell Hill said the accused man had earlier contacted people about an incident on Saturday night and they then alerted police who arrived on scene within minutes.

Supt Hill said the accused and the deceased were known to each other but he did not speculate on the nature of their relationship.

He anticipated specialist forensic examiners would remain at Poole Street for a number of days and police would be speaking with people who knew them.

The senior officer declined to answer numerous specific questions from reporters at an on-site press conference on Sunday as he said the investigation was still in its early stages.

He said police were not looking for any other persons with respect to the death.

As is standard police procedure, the body of Ms Bell was flown to Adelaide on Sunday for an autopsy.

Wattle Range Mayor and retired police officer Des Noll has commented in a public domain on the weekend tragedy.

“If that particular family needs community support, then we are willing and able to support them,” Mayor Noll said.

It is understood Ms Bell and her children had moved into the rental property in recent times.

Her Facebook profile stated she was in a relationship since last month.

The GoFundMe page for Ms Bell has had dozens of donations towards its $20,000 target.
