Museum plan delay

Aplan to keep the Millicent National Trust Museum open on public holidays has stalled.

A bid had been made by Councillor John Drew who is a ward representative on Wattle Range Council.

“The Millicent National Trust Museum is the premier visitor attraction in the town, it is important that we do everything possible to ensure its operation,” Cr Drew said.

To this end, Cr Drew submitted a notice of motion to the January monthly council meeting asking for a staff report on the use of volunteers at the Visitor Information Centres at Millicent, Penola and Beachport.

“The report should include a way to support the Millicent National Museum during times when the Millicent Visitor Information Centre cannot be staffed by Wattle Range Council staff,” Cr Drew said.

However, Cr Drew subsequently submitted an apology for non-attendance at the meeting and his motion was neither debated nor moved.

Four other councillors also submitted apologies for non-attendance but a quorum was achieved.
