Muster fit for a king

Acouple of Kelpie Hall of Fame potentials, the most unique dog ever presented at auction and a weekend jam-packed with free entertainment for the whole family are just some of the attractions on offer this Casterton Kelpie Muster weekend.

Without doubt the weekend’s star attraction, the Kelpie Triathlon – dash, high jump and hill climb – kicks off again on Saturday morning.

Several former winners are expected in the line-up, looking for their third win in one or all of the events, to take their place in the coveted Kelpie Hall of Fame, alongside names such as Cork, Riley, Bailey and Yabini.

High jumpers will also be hunting for the ultimate leap, in an effort to claim the record of 2.951 metres set by Tegan Eagle’s Hall of Famer, Bailey, in 2016.

Saturday morning kicks-off with the Lions Club of Casterton’s Poets Breakfast, where aspiring bards are welcome to take their place at the lectern and share their own work, or a piece from their favourite lyricist.

At 10am, all the colour of the Kelpie Street Parade begins at Jarrad Motors, before Henty Street is closed and the serious business of the day begins, with food stalls, market stalls, children’s activities and entertainment throughout the town.

And if you do not have a Kelpie, do not worry – there’s still plenty of opportunities for you and your four-legged friend to be a part of the festivities.

Do you have a pup with a hidden talent? One who loves to team a tutu and a tiara or don the guise of their favourite Paw Patrol Hero?

Dogs of all descriptions are welcome to show-off their talents in the novelty events, with prizes for competitions including the best trick and dog cube eating competition.

The event that started it all takes centre stage on Sunday, with working dog demonstrations at Island Park from 9.30am and the first fall of the hammer at the Australian Premier Working Dog Auction at 3pm.

As always, the crowds will be fed by Sharon McGrath and her team at the Dog Bowl, but there are still some gaps in the roster, so if you have some time and you’re ready to join the madness and fun of the Dog Bowl, contact Sharon on 0417 190 017.
