Netball heats up

It was a wild and wintry weekend of netball for the Mount Gambier Netball Association, with plenty of nail-biting games played out across the courts.

The junior game of the week was the Under 13B Zodiacs v Saints clash, which showcased the emerging talent in the younger grades.

Both teams started out strong, with Zodiacs only leading by two goals at quarter time.

Charlotte Forrest was a standout for the Saints side, using her voice effectively in her second quarter position of goal keeper, encouraging court plays with her teammates and defending hard in goals.

Zodiacs dominated on the court under the coaching of Kat Cooper.

Zoe Little played a standout game for Zodiacs, proving a powerful force in centre.

Little was seemingly everywhere on court, bursting through to chase any loose balls.

Ella Gray was also a standout for the Zodiacs side, working hard around the goal circle to try and be open for the ball and a highlight for the match was a long-range goal.

Zodiacs continued their reign for another week, winning 18-9 against Saints.

The Hobitz and Saints A Grade match could well have been the game of the season.

The third placed Saints took on top spot Hobitz, which has only lost one match this season.

Hobitz dominated the first quarter, with players combining well to be up 13-5 at quarter time.

Saints rallied in the second to claw back to 21-16 at the half time break.

The third quarter was entirely Saints as Sarah Lawler and Matilda Lamb worked hard under the goals with Rhiannon Christian.

The third quarter ended with both teams tied at 28-all.

This set the scene for a hard fought final quarter, with plenty of sidelines support, rivalling a grand final.

Both teams fought for every ball, with Hobitz goal attack Maddy Cowland proving a driving force, fighting for every loose ball.

The sides exchanged goals for the majority of the quarter, with Saints holding a slender one point lead.

However in the final minute of play Hobitz scored two goals, resulting in a final score of 37-35 to snatch the win.
