New deputy appointed

Apassionate education leader with 30 years of experience has been appointed as the new Deputy Principal of St Martins Lutheran College.

Celia Mara will commence the role at the start of the 2024 school year, following eight years at Balcombe Grammar School in regional Victoria, where she was Head of Teaching and Learning.

Throughout Ms Mara’s career, she has held leadership roles in K-12, co-ed, and girls’ schools.

She is known for driving positive change, promoting excellence and has led projects that improved student outcomes, upgraded educational programs, and created welcoming and inclusive environments.

Outside of the classroom, Mrs Mara’s insights and experience have been sought by conferences, workshops, and educational publications.

St Martins Lutheran College Principal Alan Connah said Mrs Mara will be a major asset to the team.

“I’m thrilled. I think she’s going to bring a huge array of expertise and experience,” Mr Connah said.

“She’s got a depth of experience working in teaching and learning and improving teaching and learning specifically. She also has a lot of experience working in wellbeing and pastoral care.

“It’s fantastic to be able to attract such a candidate to work in our college and somebody who really wants to come and live in this beautiful part of the world.”

Mrs Mara replaces outgoing Deputy Principal Kat Elliot, a cherished staff leader who has returned to Adelaide for personal reasons.
