New Lions welcomed to Mount Gambier branch

The Lions Club of Mount Gambier recently held its business meeting for September and was pleased indeed to welcome three new members to the club.

New Lion Brenton Lewis was inducted as a new member of the club with the induction conducted by President Beccy Field.

Lions Haydon and Jenni Hoad were welcomed as incoming members who have transferred in from the Lions Club of Penola.

Club spokesman Allen Woodham OAM said members present joined together in warmly welcoming the new members to the club.

“Welcoming new members indicates the club is functioning well as it moves forward into its seventh decade serving the Mount Gambier district,” he said.

Local Royal Flying Doctor Service representative Bill Russon presented the club with a certificate of thanks for the financial support extended from the club’s financial distributions of year 2022-23.

“The meeting addressed the operation of several of its current projects and surveyed the possibility of new ventures of opportunity for service for our community in coming days,” Mr Woodham said.

“A new venture for the club this year has been embracing the Lions Eye Health Program (LEHP) which conducts surveys of young students at schools to detect possible vision problems either present or possibly occurring in future.

“This is already proving to be a valuable initiative as early surveys have seen children recommended to optometrists for referral.

“Lions members will be out and about within the community with their Christmas cakes in coming weeks seeking to raise funds that can be utilised to make a real difference in these challenging times.

“As always the club members deeply appreciate the support received from our community which in turn has permitted us to function into our seventh decade in Mount Gambier.”
