Applications to study at TAFE SA in Semester 1 2025 opened last week, giving school leavers and job seekers across the state the chance to take a positive step towards their career goals.
TAFE SA is the leading provider of vocational education and training (VET) in South Australia, delivering courses that align to the state’s current and future workforce needs.
Students can develop in-demand skills across a diverse range of industries including information technology and cyber security, early childhood education and care, nursing and aged care and defence.
TAFE SA Chief Executive David Coltman said VET offers opportunities for people at different stages of their working life from first jobs to upskilling to changing careers.
“TAFE SA delivers sector-leading training from certificate level to higher education qualifications,” he said.
“Our training is relevant to industry needs, including new and emerging industries, and develops the blend of skills and knowledge that students require to be job ready,” he says.
“We’re focused on quality and innovation and continue to invest in new technology and infrastructure to enhance our students’ learning experience.”
Mr Coltman said significant funding from the State and Federal Governments for skills training will enable further investment.
“Under the five-year National Skills Agreement (NSA) we will see the biggest increase in funding for skills in South Australia in our state’s history and the recent State Budget included a substantial initial amount of $170m for TAFE SA,” he said.
“This funding will assist with additional training places, especially in regional South Australia, new learning resources, classrooms and equipment and the development of new courses.”
TAFE SA’s trades programs have seen a growing number of female and mature-aged apprentices and trainees over the past three years.
In the 2023-2024 financial year, the number of female apprentices and trainees was 88% higher than in the 2021-2022 financial year, while the number of apprentices and trainees above the age of 24 increased by 18% over the same period.
Popular qualifications include the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, and the Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology.
As a dual-sector VET/Higher Education provider, TAFE SA delivers qualifications ranging from entry-level certificates to a bachelor degree and provides pathways to further study.
The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) has recently renewed TAFE SA’s registration as an Institute of Higher Education for the maximum period of seven years, with no conditions attached.
TAFE SA courses are listed in the SATAC Guide and they can also be accessed via the course search function on the SATAC website.
