North Tigers ambush Kybybolite namesakes

The North Gambier Tigers have convincingly beaten the Kyby Tigers on their own home ground during round five of the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League under 16s season.

North Gambier had the momentum from the opening bounce as the ball spent most of the time in the visitors’ forward 50.

Despite having plenty of chances North Gambier Tigers only took a nine point lead into the first break, crucially it had managed to keep Kyby scoreless thanks to excellent work in midfield and the defence when called upon.

The second quarter saw North’s domination finally impact the scoreboard as it piled on the goals.

Kyby’s defence had no response to the onslaught and its midfield could not move the ball to give its forwards a chance.

The home side remained scoreless at half time as North Gambier out to a 35 point lead with four goals in the second term.

A big half was required from Kyby if it was to get back into the match, needing to kick the first goal of the third quarter.

Unfortunately for Kyby it was once again held scoreless as the southern Tigers’ midfield dominated the centre bounces and play around the ground.

Kyby’s defenders gave their all only allowing North to kick a single goal for the third quarter to have a 42 point lead going into the final term.

It was more of the same from North in the last quarter, Kyby did their best to minimise the damage but were unable to inflict any substantial blows.

The North Tigers kicked three final quarter goals to have a lead of 61 points at the final siren, with a final score North Gambier 9.7 (61) to Kyby Tigers 0.0 (0).

It was a disappointing day for the Kyby Tigers as the loss keeps them third on the ladder, while North strengthened its position at second, now only four points below top placed Hatherleigh.

The best players for North Gambier in an impressive victory were Grace Altschwager, Kelsie Anderson, Lila Pearson, Stella Davis, Jenna Baron and Maggie Collins, while the standouts in a tough day for Kyby were Evie Mott, Alice McKenzie, Georgina Mahney, Evie Koch, Libby Pretlove and Chloe Stewart.

Baron, Altschwager, and Layla McPherson all kicked two goals for North and were important for their side’s victory.

North Gambier faces the Hawks next week in a match that it should win and if Hatherleigh lose, they could jump to the top of the ladder with a win.

Kyby faces the tough task of the ladder leaders Hatherleigh, the Eagles are yet to face defeat and the Tigers will be hopeful they can bounce back to deliver an upset in round six.

Demons vs Hawks

The Demons have won their first game of the season with a hard fought win over the Hawks at
Kybybolite Oval.

The match started off in favour of the Hawks as they had a two point lead after the first quarter.

However, inaccuracy cost the Hawks a stronger lead, and they paid the price in the second term.

The Demons midfield began to dominate giving their forward line plenty of chances which they had no problems capitalising on.

The Demons defence were also on their game keeping the Hawks to a single point for the entire quarter.

The Demons had a 16 point lead at the main break and the Hawks needed to respond in the second half.

The midfield battle was intense with neither side wanting to give an inch, the defences reigned supreme in the quarter as only three points in total were scored.

The Demons finished the quarter 15 points in front as the Hawks needed to come charging home in the last term to have a chance of winning.

It was not to be though as neither side could get a point on the board for the final quarter.

The midfield was an intense contest with neither side able to get a good delivery into the forward line, the defences did well to not give their opposition a chance.

The Hawks now remain winless after four games and the side will be disappointed at its inaccuracy in front of goal.

The final score was Demons 4.2 (26) to the Hawks’ 1.5 (11), despite having the same amount of scoring shots the Demons finished 15 point winners.

The best players for the Demons in their first win of the season were Ella Guest, Marnie Mueller, Emily Walker, Bailey Broome and Saige Bell.

For the Hawks the standouts were Ruby Milich, Aynslee Hayman, Kara Murray, Sophie Longbottom and Lily Milich.

Lilah Rowe was also impressive in front of goal for the Demons, kicking two goals for the match.

The Demons now go into the bye having registered a win, while the Hawks face a tough match against the in-form Tigers.
