Nostalgic tribute takes internet by storm

An online social media post about Millicent has gone viral with thousands of views and hundreds of comments.

Lasting four minutes, the video clip is an affectionate tribute to his hometown by Adelaide media identity Leith Forrest.

Among the hilarious comments made by Mr Forrest is his description of the infamous knob rock in the grounds of Millicent High School where his buddies would try to woo their female classmates with limited success.

Looking back around 30 years to his teenage years, Mr Forrest made numerous tongue-in-cheek references to such local landmarks as the now-closed Busy Bee Deli where he scored his first job.

According to Mr Forrest, he harbors an ambition to eventually return to Millicent as the town’s Mayor.

In addition to the Millicent landmarks, Mr Forrest also filmed Mick and Jean Walker Oval at Mount Burr where he played football with the Mozzies in his youth.

Following the stunning reaction to the post on his Facebook page called “Leith Forrest Nights”, he has exchanged some cheeky comments with a reporter from The SE Voice.

“Do not print any of those revelations,” Mr Forrest wrote.

“I’ll deny them all.

“Except the Mayor bit, that’s true.”

The one-time 5THE FM presenter and Millicent High School Student Representative Council president got his start in broadcasting in his teenage years at the local community radio station.

Mr Forrest regularly returns to his home town and was the master of ceremonies at Millicent Lights Up ahead of last Christmas.

His most recent visit was to the Millicent Show earlier this month.

Earlier in 2023, he took the helm of the top-rating flagship evening program on Radio 5AA after 22 years in other subsidiary roles.

However, he has not forgotten his roots and he has been appointed patron of 5THE FM.
