Now, back to our regular scheduled programming

Regular broadcasting has resumed after an eight-month hiatus at the Millicent community radio station 5THE-FM.

Board chairman David Walshaw welcomed listeners back to regular broadcasting at 6am on Thursday following successful test transmissions and the granting of a temporary licence by the Australian Communications Management Authority.

As well as the live-stream, the Millicent community radio station can again be heard on free-to-air car radios, transistors etc.

Mr Walshaw acknowledged on-air the support from many quarters.

Breakfast host Craig Press chose John Sebastian’s Welcome Back as the first track.

This song was the theme for the popular 1970s-era American sitcom “Welcome Back Kotter”.

To mark the occasion, 5THE-FM staged an open house with a morning tea at its Railway Terrace studios on Saturday morning.

Mr Walshaw said about 90 people moved through the station and observed its on-air operations and listened to its vision for the future.

“We had several people express an on-air interest at the station as well as several who were keen to do some off-air work which was great,” Mr Walshaw said.

“We also had several cash donations made to us that morning including a very important one from the Stiles family.

“The morning tea would not have been possible without the hard work of our amazing team as well as Fosters Foodland and Andy’s Bakery who provided all of the refreshments at no cost to the station.”
