Offroad champions revved up for Pines Enduro return

After three years in hiatus the Millicent Sand Buggy Club is full of excitement for this weekend’s Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro 400.

After not hearing engines for so long, Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro 400 organiser Mark Heemskerk said there is a great vibe around the return of the event.

“We are extremely excited to have it back here in the South East,” he said.

“The pines have been missing down here for a couple of years so everyone has been full steam ahead getting things in place.”

With many buggies nominated for the event organizers are incredibly pleased with a high-quality field expected to tackle the pines including previous winners and plenty of locals to look out for.

“We have just got over 60 nominations and that is really good for the event down here,” Heemskerk said.

“In the class field we have championship leader Fred Martin who has won two of the three previous Australian offroad events and his is bringing the Martin Motorsports Group along with father Craig and Dale (Martin) and they will be racing as well.

“Craig is also a previous winner of the event and will be looking to win again.

“We have back this year the Australian Champion Aaron Haby and he is the last winner of the event back in 2019 and will be looking to go back-to-back.

“Also, previous winners Tyler Owen and Danny Brown will be amongst the action for the weekend.

“Some of the locals the will be in action over the weekend will be Greg Gartner, Heath Weedon, Jake Douglass, Andy Murdoch, and Dean Carter.”

Racing will not only be in the Teagle’s Quarry on Saturday, it will also be out in the pine forest on Sunday where the cars will be churning up the mud and jumping across some large jumps.

“Sometimes it is a war of attrition with cars racing over 400km’s across various track conditions,” Heemskerk said.

“It is extremely hard on the cars, but they are built to handle the conditions.”

Public viewing of these impressive machines will be on display at the quarry Friday night from 6pm.

“It will give you a good perspective on what these cars are all about, “Heemskerk said.

Racing will get under way Saturday morning at 10am before action returns at 8.30am the following morning.
