On-court intensity rises

The intensity is rising in the Mount Gambier and District Tennis season, with the fifth round of the season hosted at the weekend.

With a watchful eye cast over the Division 2 games this week, Glencoe earned themselves a well-deserved win over the Suttontown, claiming victory 63 games to 33.

The doubles game of David Ferguson and Mark Feetom against Carla Beck and Brody Sharam was a standout over the weekend, with an impressive rally between the players catching the attention of spectators on the sidelines.

Glencoe continued its winning run in the doubles competition and won four consecutive games back-to-back, elevating them to fourth position on the ladder.

The match between Mount Gambier and Mil Lel was an intense contest, with the two teams drawing 6-6 sets, but Mount Gambier was able to edge out its competitor and secure the win 53 games to 42.

West Gambier players came out with one thing on their mind over weekend and that was to win, which they were able to achieve in a dominant display of tennis.

They claimed a 71 to 31 game win over Reidy Park, which boosted the side to second position on the ladder in the process.

Mount Gambier retained top spot, with Mil Lel now third, Reidy Park falling to fifth and Suttontown maintaining its position in sixth place.

In Division 1, Uniting got its first win of the season against Mount Schank 50-38 and Reidy Park defeated West Gambier 68-45.

Glencoe and Centrals/Uniting/Gambier decided the incoming weather was going to be too much on Saturday, with the game washed out after completing eight matches.

Glencoe retained its top spot on the ladder, Reidy Park climbed to second, Centrals/Uniting/Gambier sits in third, West Gambier has fallen to fourth and Uniting and Mount Schank hold fiftth and sixth position respectively.

The C Boys players had a fun weekend of games as they near the summer holiday break, while Mount Gambier White had a bye for the round.

Uniting Red took on Mount Gambier/Mil Lel in a fun-filled match and rounds of applause from the sidelines were heard with impressive rallies between the match of Blake Seidel and Isaac Thami, with Seidel bursting with excitement as he secured the win of 5-3.

Uniting Red was able to retain top position on the ladder for another week and Mount Gambier/Mil Lel dropped to sixth.

Mount Gambier Blue defeated West Gambier 30-12, followed by Uniting White narrowly scraping a win of 21-18 against Moorak and Glencoe/Mount Schank defeated Mil Lel 27-14.

Mount Gambier Blue and Glencoe/Mount Schank hold their positions of second and thid position, Mount Gambier White and Uniting White sit in fourth and fifth, West Gambier is planted in seventh position and Mil Lel and Moorak hold round out the positions of eighth and ninth on the ladder.

Shifting the attention to next week’s games, there will be a focus on the C Girls category in the junior division while also keeping close watch in Division 3 for the senior competition.
