Orchids back in bloom

After two years of COVID-related cancellations, the Millicent Orchid Society staged a successful Spring Show over the three days of the Labour Day long weekend.

St Alphonsus hall was filled for the three days with exquisite blooms from up to 100 plants.

The show was open for six hours each day and plotting demonstrations, raffles and a plant sale were also held.

It was the 34th annual event for the group which provides fellowship for its members as well as information sessions about orchids.

Among the six exhibitors was Jason Mansfield who has lived in Millicent for the past five years.

He cheerfully admits to having a “green thumb” and tends to 200 plants.

“I grow orchids for enjoyment while my wife is busy with vegetables,” he said.
