Pandemic effort appreciation

The role of the people on the frontline who supported the community to get through COVID-19 pandemic was celebrated by a large gathering at Millicent recently.

Event organisers recorded more than 300 people came to personally say thanks at the Millicent Community Thank You Day.

Spokesperson for the event Simone Berry said the event was a huge success.

“The Millicent and Surrounds Health Support Group was really happy with the day.

“It was a huge success with heaps of support from the community coming out the enjoy a free sausage and Lions donut,” Ms Berry said.

“The weather was really kind to us, with it just starting to rain towards the end.

“Organisers wish to extend a thank you to all sponsors.

“The support from the health and emergency services was excellent and really appreciated.

“We believe the State Emergency Service picked up a couple of new volunteers as a result from the day.”

Sincere expressions of gratitude were extended to all staff and volunteers of the Millicent Hospital as well as other health workers, local police, ambulance, SES and CFS personnel.

With the help of generous sponsors, Country Health Connect, the Millicent and Surrounds Health Support Group and the Millicent Health Advisory Council put on some free food and entertainment.

Members of the Millicent Lions Club cooked and provided sausages and donuts at no charge.

Popular guitarist and vocalist Jack Lane performed for the entire two hour event.

Thank You Day was held at Centennial Park, centrally located alongside the Millicent Visitor Information Centre and the National Trust Museum.

The concept of the day started after the postponement of the planned Millicent Hospital open day.

The support group members initially discussed the concept of a thank you gesture just for the staff at the hospital.

The group recognised the community came through the pandemic as a result of the commitment and hard work of many people and organisations across the community.

The group thanks all sponsors including Lions Club, SE Property Saes and Management, Andy’s Bakery, Meals On Wheels, IGA, Foster’s Foodland, Woolworths, Wattle Range Council and Jack Lane.
