Passion for antiques

Iconic Penola store Never Too Old has been cherished by both young and old over the years. The antique store was initially located across the street from its current location, where it was first opened in 1994 by owners Terry and Loretta Sims.

The old store was open for 22 years and closed in June 2016. During its closure, Never Too Old was sorely missed by many, so Mr Sims said when a friend approached them about a store for sale in the Penola township, they took the opportunity to re-open the store in March 2019.

Sourcing their antiques from auctions in Adelaide, Mrs Sims said they now purchased more of their stock online due to COVID restricting auction houses.

The store has something for everyone, stocking a very varied range of antiques and collectibles. “We try to cater for all interests,” Mr Sims said. “It’s all special, it’s all interesting. “Over the time, there’s been some very interesting pieces sell.”

The couple are passionate about their Penola store. “It allows you to indulge your passion for the antiques and collectibles,” Mr Sims said. “Wander through the impressive main store and out the back you will find the Book Room and the newest addition to the store, The Shed.”

Mr and Mrs Sims said the business had been busy with the influx of tourists and they were also well supported by South Australians near and far when cross-border travel was not permitted.
