Members of the Penola Football Netball Club will meet behind closed doors on August 1 to further consider the offer to return to the Western Border competitions after an absence of 25 years.
Unlike the July 4 forum, representatives of the SANFL, Western Border and The SE Voice will not be allowed to attend as it is solely for PFNC members.
It is understood the meeting is for the purposes of sharing information only and no vote will be taken.
The current six-member Western Border competition is looking to expand in 2024 and it has already been rebuffed by the Portland and Hamilton Kangaroos clubs.
The SANFL Working Party came up with a recommendation in May to split the Western Border between the Mid South Eastern and Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Leagues.
Although Western Border officials stated the concept was supported by all six clubs, SANFL Working Party chairman Tony Irvine told the July 4 meeting at Penola that it had now been abandoned.
“It did not have legs,” Mr Irvine said.
A number of inducements have been in the mix to expand the Western Border including hosting rights for interleague carnivals and grand finals.
The SANFL stated last year that it would force a merger of the Western Border and Mid South Eastern leagues in 2024 if no alternative restructure could not be found.
