Penola Hunt Club saddles up for bumper anniversary

The Penola Hunt Club will be jumping into their 60th celebrations this weekend and there is plenty happening across the two days.

Penola Hunt Club master and secretary Jenna Bignell, who has been involved with the club for around 20 years, said the club was excited to be celebrating 60 years.

The weekend will be a great opportunity for members old and new to come together and share stories while celebrating the significant milestone.

“We’re having a quiz on the Saturday night which will include some of our older facts about the club and things like that,” Ms Bignell said.

“So it’ll be good to have the younger people in the club get to know some of our history and things that went on and just the way that things have changed over the years.

“Members of the public are welcome, if anyone wants to come and have a look then they’re totally more than welcome.”

The celebrations will begin on Saturday with a Hunter’s Competition at Sugarloaf Hills, which involves three events including a Hunter’s Trial, Hunter Panels and a Hunter’s Challenge.

On Saturday night people can enjoy a baked potato for dinner at Spot’s Hill at 6pm followed by home-made desserts along with the quiz and an auction.

The celebrations will continue at Spot’s Hill on Sunday, where a formal hunt will take place at 11am and a barbecue with salad for lunch.

Those who want to leave their mark can purchase a jump for $50, which will have a permanent custom plaque attached and will be unveiled on Sunday.

“As a club we’re going to do a plaque for each of our life members, they’ll each have their own jump but they will be in a line so that we can do a memory lane so we can pay homage to our life members,” Ms Bignell said.

“The rest of the jump plaques will be scattered all over the property at Spot’s Hill.”
