Pioneers seek key home victories

The Mount Gambier Pioneers enjoy the comforts of home for the penultimate round of the 2022 NBL1 South season, but they will be on edge this Saturday night.

With the chance of a top-two finish and all-important home final with the double chance looming large, both Pioneers sides will see their respective battles with Knox as vital encounters.

The OneFortyOne Mount Gambier Pioneers women tip off the action from 6pm and will be chasing their first ever win over Raiders.

The sides have only met once in 2021 where a big first term pushed the Raiders to glory in a low-scoring contest.

Although the Pioneers hold the high ground sitting five places ahead of Knox on the ladder, the Victorian outfit should not be taken lightly.

The Raiders are in form having won the last three games with Alicia Froling and Klara Wischer the focal points under the ring.

But with the likes of Shakera Reilly, Hannah Young, Sherrie Calleia, Haliegh Reinoehl and Cassandra Brown all in damaging form, Mount Gambier expects to perform.

The Castec Rural Pioneers men are on a high after winning two thrilling games on their recent road trip and would like to continue their momentum in front of home fans.

Michael Harris and Nick Marshall are running hot following their prolific weekend which contained a pair of 20-plus point performances each.

Mount Gambier won the one and only previous contest with the Raiders also at the Icehouse where a consistent four-quarter effort and accurate shooting from inside the arch proved to be decisive.

Although the game got physical at times, the Pioneers used their bench strength to always keep the Raiders at arm’s length.

This year’s Knox team has had an ‘on and off again’ campaign, winning 10 of its 19 games.

But with two other sides also on the same amount of wins and desperate to knock the Raiders out of the top eight.

Currently sitting on the bubble, Knox will come out swinging.
