Players fight for monthly medal

With Thursday’s weather looking slightly damp, 80 players still greeted the starter at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

They enjoyed mostly dry conditions with some good scores being returned but none could beat Ross Bond who took the $100 winners voucher.

Bond found himself on top after a count back was required to sort the top four players who all finished on 39 points.

Graham Robinson claimed second while Barry Page and Michael Dawe can consider themselves slightly unlucky to shoot 39 points and be relegated to the ball rundown list.

Mount Gambier Golf Club Professional John Martin carded a very tidy 38 points and 71 off the stick with Graham Thomas and Michael Foran matching his total.

Nick Black had 37 points with Rob McIntyre and Bryan Hunt rounding out the top 10 with 36 points apiece.

Bryan Hunt also claimed the nearest the pin on the 16th hole but was unable to roll in his birdie putt while Tim Kenny had no such problems after claiming the nearest the pin on the 8th with a 9 iron to 50cm.

Hayden Cook and Flynn Davison both posted nett 69 to ensure the July Monthly Medal at Attamurra went down to the wire on Saturday.

Cook claimed the A Grade win while Davison had to settle for the C Grade winner’s cheque, while Paul Kenny claimed B Grade with a nett 70.

John Gosling took second place in A Grade including a flying finish with an eagle two on the par 4 last.

Dave Boyce claimed second in B Grade and Craig Torney did the same in C Grade.

The ball run down extended to nett 75 with the unlucky Stacey Fiegert being bubble boy.

John Gosling, Jeff Hodge, Peter Gardner, Phil McBain, Jim Leane, Rob McIntyre, Darren Bilney, Daniel Whitehead and Grant Harvey all managed a birdie two on the day with Bilney and Flynn Davison taking the pro-shot awards.
