Police catch up with drivers

Limestone Coast police were kept busy on the region’s roads over the weekend, with several drivers detected breaking the law.

Just before 10.15pm on Friday police stopped a woman on Cannawigara Road Bordertown.

The 47-year-old Kingston woman submitted to a breath test and returned a positive reading of 0.100.

She lost her licence on the spot for six months and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

At about 12.15am on Sunday a 24-year-old Padthaway man was stopped on Hill Ave at Keith.

He submitted to a breath test and returned a positive reading of 0.161.

The man lost his licence on the spot for 12 months and his car was clamped for 28 days.

Just over 12 hours later at 12.30pm a 41-year-old Reynella man was stopped on Thomas Drive, Mount Burr.

Checks revealed the man was disqualified from driving.

He was reported for driving disqualified and driving contrary to a driver direction notice.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Another man has lost his licence after blowing more than three times the legal blood alcohol limit.

Just after 8pm on Friday Penola patrols stopped a Toyota Landcruiser utility on Furner Road at Furner for a driver screening test.

The 66-year-old driver returned a positive breath alcohol reading of 0.172.

He was reported for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and was issued a 12 month immediate loss of licence.

A SAPOL spokesperson said police have increased patrol activity along minor arterial roads under Operation Back Roads.

This is Limestone Coast Local Service Area initiative to reduce trauma on the roads.

LCLSA police are also reminding drivers of upcoming football finals in the coming weeks.

During these events, police will be active in and around sporting venues, targeting drink and drug drivers.

Meanwhile, emergency services were called to a vehicle rollover in the Millicent township on Monday afternoon.

The alarm was raised at 12.30pm after the driver lost control on Mount Gambier Road near the entrance gates to Bolton Oval.

The 75-year-old Mount Gambier man was the sole occupant.

He sustained cuts and bruises and he was able to get himself out of the vehicle.
