Police suspect a stolen car and a distinctive advertising sign were deliberately set alight near the Mount Burr township last week.
The Mount Burr Country Fire Service was mobilised to the Millicent/Mount Burr Road at 8.50pm on Thursday but brigade captain Trevor Schultz said nothing could be done.
“The car was well alight by the time we got there,” Mr Schultz said. Police said the Mazda sedan had been reported as stolen from a Millicent address and investigations are continuing.
The advertising sign was erected a decade ago and pointed to the Millicent golf course. It celebrates 60 years of operation next month.
Millicent Golf Club president Mark Pilmore said they were looking to replace the sign.
Komma Media proprietor Clint Bowering designed the original, Cocky’s made the sign and Abbsteel built the frame.
