Powerball prize win rumour gets town talking

The rumour mill is in overdrive in Millicent with speculation that a local man has won $100,000.

According to the street talk, the man’s good fortune came his way in a recent Powerball draw.

Winning of sizeable Lotto prizes are a rarity in Millicent and the holders of most successful entries prefer to stay anonymous.

There was an exception made in 2004 when Kingston businessman Cyril Wilks (now deceased) identified himself as the winner of a $1.13m prize.

His lucky ticket had been purchased from the Busy Bee Deli which formerly traded in George Street.

Mr Wilks had been a president of the Kingston Football Club.

Each year, the neighbouring Kingston and Robe clubs play a pre-season match for the coveted Smith Wilks Trophy.

It honours his memory along with Mail the late Kym Smith who was a Robe premiership coach and winner of three consecutive Mail medals as the competition’s best and fairest.
