A Grade – Kalangadoo v Robe

The preliminary final between Kalangadoo and Robe started goal-for-goal with intense play at both ends.

The Roosters’ defenders Emma Grant and Georgia Perkins created great pressure causing Magpies’ goalies Abbey Duncan and Kori Collins to over-think their shots.

At the other end of the court Halle Carter and Sarah Laurie shared the shooting role, despite strong defensive pressure from Lauren Kain and Reanna Weatherall.

Robe held a two-goal lead at quarter time despite the play being reasonably even.

In the second quarter Lucy Perkins used her speed well to create space, while Carter shot at 100% accuracy to keep the Roosters moving.

At the other end Duncan continued to dominate for the Pies in the circle through the drive and feeding of Kirsty Egan.

Kalangadoo settled and played with patience going into half time with a two goal lead of its own.

The Magpies scored off their first centre pass of the third quarter despite intense defensive pressure by Grant and Perkins.

Annie Hunter applied defensive pressure through the mid court, with her team desperate for every ball.

Despite this, Kalangadoo settled and pushed out to a seven-goal lead at three quarter time.

In the last quarter Laurie was the focal point in the circle for the Roosters, however Kain’s defensive pressure limited opportunities.

Kalangadoo’s hands over pressure through the mid court caused many turnovers and Collins came into the game to shoot with accuracy.

The Pies had a convincing 13 goal win and have earnt the opportunity to play for their 10th consecutive premiership.

A Reserve – Robe v Glencoe

Both teams started strong with Glencoe scoring the first two goals before Robe soon responded.

The first quarter was much the same going goal-for-goal with the scores level at first quarter break, with Abbie Cocks taking control of the Glencoe goal circle.

The second quarter saw Robe’s defence create some timely turnovers with Kim Ross taking three to open a five-goal advantage at half time.

Due to the mid court pressure and work rate of Keryn Moore and Ross the Murphies could never fight their way back into the game.

B Grade – Glencoe v Hatherleigh

Glencoe got off to great start outscoring Hatherleigh 13 goals to nine in the first term.

Madeline Watson was dominant at goal shooter, while Eagle Hayley Bell came off with an ankle injury and was replaced by Ellie Cook at goal attack.

Mid court turnovers cost the Eagles as Kate Sealey applied intense defensive pressure and Watson continuing her dominance.

The second half was more even with Hatherleigh’s Ellie Cook shooting with confidence and Sally McDonnell limiting the opportunities of Charlie Muhovics.

But the Murphies had done the hard work in the first half and finished strongly to be up by 16 at the final whistle.

B Reserve – Kalangadoo v Port MacDonnell

The first quarter set the stage for a tight contest between Kalangadoo and Port MacDonnell.

Goalies struggled to hit the ring and had to work hard to keep the ball at both ends.

The Magpies led by a single goal at the first break, while the rivals shot 12 goals apiece in the second term.

The third quarter was highlighted by the accurate shooting from Port MacDonnell’s Ainsley Mann and Kalangadoo’s Jodie Greenwood.

The Magpies made several changes in the last quarter which seemed to unsettle the Demons and capitalised on this to come out victors.

17 and Under – Port MacDonnell v Mount Burr

Port MacDonnell faced off against Mount Burr after a hard loss against Robe and had fire in their bellies to take an early lead.

But the Mozzies proved their dominance leading 15-7 at quarter time with Faith McKenzie shooting accurately.

Jarrah Altschwager and Arriella Smith ran toe to toe in constant competition throughout the game, both playing a vital role in their team’s transition.

Bridie McPherson was key in the defensive end for Port MacDonnell forcing Mount Burr to make errors.

At the end of the third term the Mozzies led 39-28, but the Demons were not ready to let their season go and came out firing.

This rattled Mount Burr as they struggled to transition the ball to their goalies.

However, Maddie Gamble from Mount Burr created a few crucial turnovers to seal the win 49-44.

15 and Under – Mount Burr v Robe

Mount Burr and Robe faced off in the preliminary final at Kalangadoo.

The Mozzies started strongly with Abbey Falting shooting with 100% accuracy in the first quarter and Olivia Holland feeding well.

Macy Burns and Sara Smith showed strong defence for the Mozzies turning the ball over every chance they got.

But the second quarter saw Robe come out with a changed line up bringing Lucy Collins on at goal shooter and Demi Bermingham to goal keeper, which helped the team settle and the make a goal for

Georgie Wirth had a great tussle with Burns who created many turnovers however they were not capitalised on as the Roosters steadied and came away with the win.

13 and Under – Port MacDonnell v Glencoe

Port MacDonnell faced off against Glencoe in the 13 and Under preliminary final played at Kalangadoo.

The Demons started the first quarter off strong, with Bailee Lewis being a focal point in the goal circle while Kasey McLean transitioned the ball smoothly down the court.

Bringing Taya Bellinger on for the Murphies, made a difference for their attack line, with her feeding and driving well down the court, while Lily Jacobs and Bailee Lewis made a huge difference to the game.

The intensity in the third quarter dropped dramatically, both teams making silly errors.

Glencoe’s Isabella Brierley utilised her defensive pressure to slow the Demons’ drive down the court, but Jacob’s pop out in the goal circle allowed space for Bailee.

Port MacDonnell was too strong in the end and come away with the 51-25 win.
