Mount Gambier’s Purple Thunder has plenty to cheer about – after sweeping the floor in their first competition for the season.
The Purple Thunder Cheerleaders took part in the CheerCon IceBreaker competition in Adelaide, which attracted more than 1600 competitors from through SA.
The Mount Gambier club took seven competition teams with participants ranging in age from five years old through to adults.
The cheer squad won six of the seven categories they entered, as well as finishing fourth in the seventh.
They now have the opportunity to travel to the US next year to compete in the competition’s finals.
Purple Thunder coach Suzanne Flanagan was thrilled with the results.
“This is the most success we have had,” she said.
“Our teams start learning their current routines in March ready for the first competition in July. Skills are progressed each year.
“All the teams had an incredible performance. They have been working extremely hard and it was great to see their hard work pay off so early in the season.
“We are very excited to have won a bid to head to Orlando, Florida in 2025, We have been working towards this goal for a long time.”
Ms Flanagan said all Purple Thunder’s seven teams had “stand out” routines on the day.
“We are extremely proud of all our athletes, we are very thankful for their supportive families,” she said.
