Following the success of Nissan’s e-POWER X-TRAIL, the manufacturer has ‘electrified’ it’s smaller SUV package with the launch of the Nissan QASHQAI Ti e-POWER down under.
The top of the line QASHQAI now offers a smooth and responsive electric vehicle experience without the need to plug in, with the SUV’s drivetrain powered by a high-output battery, inverter and 140kW electric motor to drive the wheels, with the battery charged by a small 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with the support of regenerative braking to provide instant torque and a silent driving experience.
On the outside the core elements of the elegant QASHQAI styling remains with its more msucular, sharp and morern appearance alongside the addition of e-POWER badging.
A suite of colours are available for the QASHQAI Ti, including Gun Metallic, Ceramic Grey as pictured, Platinum, Burgundy, Fuji Sunset Red, Ivory Pearl, Magnetic Blue and Pearl Black, with a special two-tone paint scheme available for select colourways.
With just one trim level available for the e-POWER QASHQAI, Nissan has been able to pack as many features into one package, including the Nissan e-Pedal system, panoramic glass roof, 10.8-inch heads up display, motiuon activated tailgate, 3D quilted leather trim, heated and massaging front seats and much more.
Hopping inside the QASHQAI you are instantly treated to a visual and comfort masterpiece, with the Monoform seats receiving the black quilted leather treatment which is further enhanced with the addition of midnight blue accents.
This colour combination works an absolute treat and is a nice switch-up from the regular all-black leather trim that is becoming the standard in today’s motoring industry.
Firing the vehicle to life and setting off for a Thursday afternoon tour around the region provided an opportunity to put the QASHQAI e-Power through its paces and see how it stacked up against it’s bigger sibling.
When the petrol engine kicks into gear to charge up the EV battery system, the only sound you can hear within the cabin is a low hum, which is only noticeable if you turn down the stereo or sit in silence to force yourself to hear it – which you will not be doing often as the high-quality Bose audio system packs a serious punch!
Taking an extra step with the electric technology, Nissan has allowed owners to experience a more intuitive way to drive which is unique to X-TRAIL e-POWER models through it’s e-Pedal.
This addition gives drivers the option to accelerate and decelerate effectively with just the accelerator pedal at speeds above 10kph, leaving the brake pedal for harder braking or coming to a complete stop.
Smartphone integration has also been taken to the next level with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity meaning you can stream all your favourite music with ease through the high-quality 12.3-inch touchscreen display which also features satellite navigation.
As always Nissan has packed a plethora of safety and tech into the QASHQAI through its Nissan Intelligent Mobility package including around view monitoring with moving object detection, rear automatic braking, blind spot intervention and warning, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assistance, traffic sign recognition, lane departure and forward collision warnings as just the tip of the features backed into the vehicle.
There is plenty more that can be said about the new QASHQAI Ti e-Power, but the best way to experience it is to pop down to OGR Nissan and take it for a whirl yourself!
