Ahappy group of eight had a narrow win when the Millicent Craft Group held its annual quiz night on Friday at the Millicent Bowling Club rooms.
With a margin of just two over its nearest rival, “Calamari Rings” members proved just slightly superior in their general knowledge to 90 other participants spread over 11 other tables.
Pat Muhovics, John Madden, Terry and Jenny Lonergan, Nina and Scott Lonergan and Judi and Greg DePamphilis correctly answered 77 out of the 100 questions.
For example, they were asked the identity of the Australian Head of State (correct answer is King Charles III), the collective noun for frogs (an army) and the world’s oldest rainforest (Daintree).
The competitors ranged from long-time locals to recent arrivals to Millicent.
As well as entry fees, the coffers of the Millicent Craft Group coffers were boosted by numerous raffles and competitions.
The capable quiz master was Geoff Cameron and he served up many brain teasers over the four-hour event.
He is a second-generation quiz master as his late parents Don and Val Cameron also filled this role with distinction over many years and raised funds for local schools, charities and community groups.
After most quiz nights across Millicent were cancelled in 2020 and 2021, they have returned at a pace.
The Millicent High School Student Representative Council held a 1980s-theme quiz night in September.
Arguably the best-attended quiz night in Millicent each year is staged by the Parent Committee of the Gladys Smith Early Learning Centre.
Its 2022 function will be on October 22 at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.
