RAA has crunched the numbers to reveal the top 20 cheapest petrol stations in metro and regional SA, with a Mount Gambier outlet identified as the cheapest outside of Adelaide.
The study was undertaken to help motorists save at the bowser in the face of rising cost-of-living pressures.
Over a three-month period, the cheapest Unleaded 91 petrol in metropolitan Adelaide was the Costco at Kilburn – averaging $162.8 per litre – while the cheapest in regional SA was found at BP Mount Gambier OPT, averaging $173.3 per litre.
RAA fuel expert Mark Borlace said the difference between the average price of Unleaded 91 petrol in metropolitan Adelaide between number one and 20 on the list was 17.5 cents.
“Even within metropolitan Adelaide there’s significant variance in prices which means motorists can save hundreds of dollars each year by shopping around,” he said.
“With fuel prices spiking to over $2 per litre in the last week – it’s never been more important to shop around for the bets price.
“An RAA survey showed that people using real time fuel pricing apps like the RAA app can save around $342 per year on average.
“As cost-of-living pressures continue to mount for households and families – every dollar counts.
“In practical terms, those savings can help offset the cost of your vehicle registration for almost half the year depending on what car you drive.
“If you’re heading on a regional trip, it pays to check the price at your destination before you leave so you can choose whether to fill up your whole tank now or wait until they arrive.”
