Rampaging Roos bounce home

Lucindale produced a fourth quarter comeback to win the 2022 Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League premiership at Kingston on Saturday.

Trailing by 18 points at the last change, the Roos flew home to snatch the flag from Keith and took full advantage of a very strong breeze in the deciding quarter.

The Roos started the game full of run and had to work hard into the breeze to get any score.

Riley McFarlane kicked the first goal of the game into the breeze.

Keith responded and held most of the play down their end of the ground for the rest of the quarter as they had the aid of a strong breeze.

Goals from George Johnson who kicked two and singles to Lewis Hender and Daniel Bibby had the Crows in a good position at quarter time.

George Thring, Nick Van den Berg and George Johnson had great first quarters or the Crows to open a 19-point lead at quarter time.

Lucindale hit back in the second quarter, but they had trouble kicking straight as Hamish Gordon scored the game’s only goal for the quarter when he slotted it after the half time siren.

But the Roos had lifted though during the quarter through the hard work of Bradley McCarthy, Scott Foord-Spriggs, Jamie McCarthy and Hamish Gordon, while Seamus McMurray also defended very well to limit the damage by the Roos.

The third quarter was again a struggle as the Crows had the breeze again.

Keith struggled to take advantage of it Jack Jones was the only Crows player able to kick a goal during the quarter as the Crows put on 1.6 to Lucindale’s 0.1.

The Roos were defending well, but the Crows were wasteful as the three-quarter time margin was only three goals.

William McMurray, George Thring and Nick Van den Berg had massive quarters, but Jamie McCarthy, Duncan Ogilvie and Anthony McCarthy did a great job in to the breeze to limit the Crows’ scoring.

The Roos were confident of running over Keith in the fourth quarter as they were coming home with the advantage of a strong breeze.

Lucindale attacked right from the first bounce as they were able to keep the ball in their forward 50 most of the time.

Bradley McCarthy kicked a goal for the Roos and then Hamish Gordon slotted another as they were right on top in general play as Bradley McCarthy, Riley McFarlane and Hamish Gordon were belting in hard and getting plenty of the ball and driving it forward.

Keith defended hard and their back line was holding up pretty well, but their clearing kicks were falling the way of the Roos players arms.

Hamish Gordon dribbled a lovely goal to bring the Roos to within four points and then moments later Riley McFarlane kicked a goal to put them in front.

George Johnson, Seamus McMurray and George Thring battled on hard for the Crows, while Nick Vandenberg also was tried his best to lift them in the ruck.

But when the siren sounded it marked Lucindale’s comeback for the ages to win the 2022 Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara A Grade Premiership.
