Shane ‘Tassie’ Raymond has stepped up to coach the Nangwarry Football Club seniors for the 2023 season.
Raymond took on the role of senior assistant coach last season and said when the club approached him to coach the senior side next year he “did not hesitate”.
“With the playing group that we have got, a team of young players that are extremely keen to learn and develop, combined with a group of experienced and leadership players, it makes the decision to coach very easy,” Raymond said.
“The entire squad of this year has re-signed and bringing in new recruits to add to the already young and exciting list we have, I really do believe we can bring success next season.
“We want to continue to build on the good work of former coach Luke Thomson and the Nangwarry Football Club over the past two years.”
Raymond said he was excited about the upcoming season and could see more wins on the horizon for Nangwarry.
“We will be a very competitive and sustainable side,” he said.
“Together with a fantastic club with a fantastic committee, members and supporters, myself and the playing group are confident the side will be highly competitive week in, week out.”
Raymond has a wealth of football experience, having played football for South Australia and Tasmania at state representative level.
He has also been involved in coaching from a junior to senior level for a number of years and has taken on leadership roles at clubs he has been associated with, including director of football.
“I am excited to take all that experience into my role as senior coach of Nangwarry next year,” Raymond said.
“I am excited to be developing our senior list, but equally excited to put a concentrated effort in developing our junior footballers playing at a junior colts and senior colts level.
“I am looking forward to working alongside reserves coach Butch Muhovics and all of our junior coaches.
“I love player development and love everything about Saturday game days.
“My key focus is implementing and sustaining well-being and behaviour that upholds excellent club culture both on and off the field.
“The players and members having access to our club-developed mental health and wellbeing initiative Switch the Play and having a qualified, dedicated well-being person makes us a pretty unique club.”
Nangwarry Football Club president Shane Ploenges said next season was sounding “very positive”.
“The footy club is really excited for what Shane is going to bring into the club next year,” he said.
“Everything has been really positive, what he has been doing around the club in the last twelve to eighteen months, so we’re excited for what he’s going to bring towards us next year.”
Ploenges said the club had made some good steps in the past couple of years and he was looking forward to Nangwarry taking home more wins this season.
“I think Shane with his experience that he brings with him it is going to be very exciting,” he said.
“He is very passionate and it’s great what the family has brought to the club.
“We have been very fortunate over the years bringing good people into the club and I think this is going to continue and bring in some more talent and hopefully just keep building towards getting the club back up the ladder.”
