Millicent community radio station 5THE-FM continues to go from strength-to-strength with more than 60 well-wishers passing through its doors at its recent Open Day.
As in past years, the event was open to all and it was also one of the official Seniors Month activities arranged by Wattle Range Council.
There was significant interest from Banksia House and Boneham Aged Care Services and their participants were bussed to the Railway Terrace premises.
Many favourable comments were passed about the many improvements to the interior and exterior of the station over the past 11 months.
A number of volunteer on-air presenters including the evergreen Bill Chapman were on hand for a chat.
Listener Val Redden said she was pleased to see the local sporting identity who is well-known as “Chappie”.
Having played Thirds and Seconds with the Collingwood Football Club, “Chappie” was keen to remind everyone of the outcome of the AFL grand final.
“I like the on-air banter from him and his choice of music,” she said.
Radio 5THE-FM board of management chairman David Walshaw was pleased with the interest shown in the Open Day.
“We had board members here earlier in the day on a working bee,” Mr Walshaw said.
“Our community radio station was keen to showcase the studio upgrades as well additional broadcasting equipment which was donated by Triple M and volunteer Frank Wilcox.
“We have applied for a grant from the Stand Like Stone Foundation.”
