Ready to ring in the New Year

Revellers are getting set to ring in the New Year throughout the Limestone Coast.

Thousands are flocking to the coastal towns of Robe and Beachport to see out 2023, with fireworks set to fill the night sky.

Meanwhile, Mount Gambier will host a family friendly celebration at the Cave Gardens between 4pm and 9pm.

The event will include food stalls, jumping castles, face painting, balloon sculptures and giant games.

Live entertainment will be provided from 4pm including children’s entertainer Candi Smith and music from the Christy Wallace Trio and Magnet.

As many people hit the region’s roads to travel to NYE celebrations, the State Government has issued a plea to motorists to prioritise road safety to ensure 2024 starts off on the right note.

Tragically, 113 lives have been lost on South Australian roads this year and 851 people have been seriously injured.

South Australia Police has identified road user behaviour as a factor in many of these crashes with more than 10% of people who lost their life being unlicensed or not wearing a seatbelt.

Drivers are being urged to be aware of the dangers of the Fatal Five – drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, seatbelts, and dangerous road users.
