Record vaccines administered

South Australians rolled up their sleeves in record numbers last month, with latest figures showing more than 418,000 doses of the vaccine were administered across the state in August.

The new monthly record represents more than 100,000 extra doses administered in August compared to July, up 32%, with that number expected to increase further this month.

Health and Wellbeing Minister Stephen Wade said as supplies increased and eligibility expanded, vaccination numbers were on the rise.

“South Australians have continued to step up and do what is required throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and it is fantastic to see the numbers of people rolling up their sleeves increasing significantly in recent weeks,” Minister Wade said.

“The vaccination program is our doorway out of the pandemic and getting the vaccine into the arms of South Australians is the best way that we can keep our state’s population safe and our economy strong.

“Building on this momentum, we are now distributing additional doses to state-run vaccination clinics in metropolitan and regional areas to ensure we continue to bring this vital vaccine to the people of South Australia.

“This month we will also be establishing more pop-up clinics, while mobile vaccination units will be run out of the Wayville, Elizabeth and Noarlunga clinics, as we continue to scale up our roll-out and look to target our efforts towards communities that need it the most.

“We are determined to do everything we can to get South Australians vaccinated as soon as possible and I want to thank every single South Australian who has rolled up their sleeve to protect the community and protect themselves. They are playing their part in keeping our community safe.”
