The Friends of Stand Like Stone program has announced this year’s Champion grant winner in the Limestone Coast, naming Foodbank SA as the successful recipient.

The ‘Friends of Stand Like Stone’ program, now in its third year, was developed to encourage and help more people become a local philanthropist for the Limestone Coast community.

The program enables any individual or organisation to support the foundation on a number of levels.

Stand Like Stone chief executive Roger Babolka said for $500 a year each donation helped the foundation to run the Limestone Coast’s only community foundation and continue serving the community.

“Each year we aim to grow the number of ‘Friends’ and increase the grant allocation,” he said.

“As a result, the perpetual named sub-fund also grows, providing a lasting gift to our community and ensures the growth and sustainability of this amazing program.”

Mr Babolka said the ‘Friends’ donations were pooled with that of other Friends, ultimately providing the community with a major annual Friends Champion grant round, in which all Friends have the opportunity to vote on their preferred grant recipient.

“This year we are thrilled to announce the successful applicant for the Friends Champion grant is Foodbank SA on the Limestone Coast,” he said.

“This magnificent organisation was successful in securing a grant of $2990 that will go towards purchasing a pallet jack with a scissor-lift feature to ensure the food relief operations are more efficient, and importantly improve the work-health safety conditions for their hard-working volunteers.”

Foodbank SA in the Limestone Coast supports hundreds of families each week and relies on the support of many volunteers to deliver this critical service.

Foodbank SA Limestone Coast Branch Manager Lynne Neshoda was thrilled with the donation.

“It’s initiatives such as the Friends of Stand Like Stone Champion grant that not only enables the foundation to respond to the needs of the communities, but it also enables organisations like Foodbank to continue to provide a critical support service to those in need in this region,” she said.
