Regional Express has released an update a week after the airline went into voluntary administration.
Mid-last week the airline cancelled its capital city routes, but vowed to maintain its regional services – including in Mount Gambier – while administrators worked to address the situation.
On Tuesday Rex issued a statement saying it had been “working to ensure Rex’s regional services continue through – and beyond – Rex’s voluntary administration”.
A partner at administrator EY Australia Sam Freeman said the group had been focused on “ensuring our regional network operates without disruption”.
“I’m proud to say that since Wednesday last week, we have carried thousands of passengers across hundreds of sectors,” he said.
“We also shared that we made the important but difficult decision to cancel all Boeing 737 flights between major cities.
“Fortunately, Virgin stepped up with a generous offer to reaccommodate Rex passengers on overlapping routes, and I can share today they have rebooked all passengers who have contacted them and are due to travel before the end of August and expect to have everyone who has contacted them rebooked by the end of the week.
“It has been great to see and hear the response of our customers and experience the groundswell of support for Rex’s continued success from ordinary Australians, as well as governments, business, tourism bodies, and other stakeholders.
“I know many of you rely on Rex to keep you connected and I wanted to reassure you that you can continue to book with confidence on the Rex regional network during the period of the voluntary administration.
“We have a funding commitment from creditors to continue to operate the regional network and will shortly be announcing a sales process to find a new owner for the airline.”
Mr Freeman said he expected that any successful sale of the airline would involve the new owners operating regional flights.
“In the unlikely event these flights are cancelled – you’ll receive a full refund of your booking,” he said.
“Our dedicated Rex Flyer members can also continue to utilise their status tier benefits when travelling on the Rex regional network.
“Rex points can still be earned on flights over this period; however, members are not able to redeem their points at this time.”
