Regional lobster fishers pleased with opening catch

Professional lobster fishers along the South East coast are happy with the opening beach (wholesale) price of $70 per kilogram.

Industry sources expect them to be exported live to markets in Hong Kong and Vietnam.

The domestic market in Adelaide is currently charging retail customers $75 per kilogram.

The majority of the 160-strong Southern Zone fleet took to the water last week when the 2021/22 season got under way.

The SE Voice has been told 100% of boats went fishing from Port MacDonnell, Beachport, Southend and Blackfellows Caves.

However, only a few boats fished on Saturday when the weather was sour.

Some fishers have privately expressed fears that trade with China will remain in jeopardy owing to international tensions created by the nuclear submarines to be built by the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States of America.
