Regional performer Tamworth bound

Local singer-songwriter Anne Fraser will soon take off to Tamworth to perform at the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival.

She will leave on April 17 with guitar in hand for a week-long stay in the country music capital with the festival taking place from April 18 to 24.

Ms Fraser said she was excited for the festival, which had been a long time coming due to COVID cancellations.

“It’s a mixture of nerves and excitement, I’m sure,” she said.

“It’s also a long-time dream of mine too, so for me it’s been years of just wanting to go as a music lover, but then thinking, ‘wow, now I’m actually going with my music’ and that’s quite surreal.”

She will perform around 15 original songs and described her music as contemporary-country with personal and relatable lyrics.

Ms Fraser will perform as part of the Tamworth Songwriters Association at various locations during her stay including the Picasso Art and Wine Bar, Oasis Hotel, City Bowls Club and the Toyota Tailgate Stage.

She will also busk in Peel Street and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Ms Fraser said she was excited about meeting musicians at Tamworth who she had met through social media platforms and the event leading to further collaborations.

Ms Fraser said she grew up in a musical family, however only started song writing two years ago.

Her song ‘Those Fraser Boys,’ a tribute to her father, recently debuted in the Country Songs Top 40 Australia and was short-listed for the upcoming Australian Songwriters Association Awards.

‘Those Fraser Boys’ was recorded locally with Mark Moffatt and Wendy Roeters and she is now working with producers in Brisbane, with new song ‘A Town called Tamworth’ currently being produced.

Ms Fraser said Tamworth had always been a dream of hers because she grew up listening to country artists such as Slim Dusty and John Williamson and had met Leigh Kernaghan.

“Those people have just always been iconic to me,” she said.

“I guess they have just inspired me because they’re so honest with their lyrics.”
