Rising stars taste SANFL success

The 2022 SANFL U18 Torrens University Cup was played at the Adelaide Oval last weekend between North Adelaide and Glenelg and some local stars helped the Tigers get their hands on the holy grail.

The yellow and black line up featured some good local talent from the Limestone Coast who put on a show.

Some of those names included Millicent’s Eli Redman, Kynan Dunn, Robe’s Ollie McInnes and South Gambier’s Noah Sims and Jake Walker.

The Tigers over ran the inaccurate Roosters to claim the 2022 title by eight points in an close battle.

The star of the show was Redman who kicked three goals for Glenelg, including a special snap.

The Tigers did not have it all their own way with North Adelaide taking control of the game and making them work extremely hard being down 10 points at the main break.

But a big effort from the Tigers after the long break on the Adelaide Oval turf was needed and the spark was lit and away went the black and yellow.

North Adelaide was under pressure from Glenelg, and it was seen by the movement of the ball from the Roosters.

The Tigers had control of the game late in the last term and made the most of opportunities that arose.

In the end the Glenelg u18s claimed the premiership with a nail-biting win over North Adelaide.

In the other Under 16’s game Glenelg took on Woodville West-Torrens and it was not a night to remember for the games up and coming stars.

The Limestone Coast was represented by Mount Burr’s Kallan Bevan, Robe’s James Dutton and Max Robertson and Millicent’s Jack Haggett and Kobe Gibson.

At half time, the younger Tigers were under the pump going in with a 10-point deficit and needed to lift the work rate.

But the Eagles were flying high, and Glenelg had no answer to the pressure from the latter.

In the end it was a 40-point win to Woodville West-Torrens over the Tigers on the big stage.

After a fantastic season and a little disappointed the Tigers will benefit from the experience.
