Rivals play out classic

Round eight of the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League saw some close games and not-so-close games, as there were some interesting results around the league.

Keith won against Mundulla in a great game of football, as both teams played another classic in their recent rivalry of big games.

The game was close across the four quarters as both teams threw scoring punches at each other.

The Crows got the lead late when Blake Read intercepted the ball and executed the perfect banana kick from the boundary.

The victory put Keith a game clear in third spot. This was a great win for the Crows as they faced a Mundulla team that was near full strength for the first time in 2025.

Ben Simounds led the Crows’ scoring with four goals. Riley Wilsdon was a force in front of the goals as well, with three goals. Seb Schreiber, Jordy Hall and Ryan Bartlett were the best players for the Crows.

Darcy King led the fight for Mundulla with three goals, while he had help from Jake McGrice, Nathan Studham, Reagan Tink and Billy Wiese, who each kicked two goals. The Tigers’ best players were Jake McGrice, Chris Curran and Tom Gaden.

Lucindale had a big convincing victory against Kybybolite on Saturday by 83 points.

The Roos took over the game after quarter time as the Tigers had no answers for the Roos.

Ryan Kemp and Henry Tregoweth were a force in the forward line for the Roos with four goals each. The Roos’ best players were William Gould, Riley McFarlane and Tom Fisher.

Kybybolite had five individual goal kickers in the game, as Liam Hoy, Billy Laurie, Fletcher Masters, Billy Stretch and Thomas Taheny all kicked singles. Kybybolite’s best players were Billy Laurie, Billy Stretch and Henry Crauford.

Border Districts won a close battle against Padthaway to stay in touch with the top five teams on the ladder.

The Eagles fought off the Lions throughout the contest and were able to post a gritty 21-point victory.

The Eagles got multiple contributions to the winning score, as Brodie Adams, Josh Cother, Brandon Lord, Joshua Richards and Samuel Smith kicked two goals each. The Eagles’ best players were Joshua Richards, Gabriel Burden and Carl Hausler.

Padthaway got some good scoring contributors, as Kiefer Sharkie and Troy Menzel kicked three goals each. The Lions’ best players were Kiefer Scharkie, Nathan Jones and Jordan Hooper.

Kingston had a percentage boosting victory of 192 points over Naracoorte.

The game was top versus bottom, and it showed on Saturday.

Kingston compiled 12 goal kickers, with the leading goal kickers being Tyler Baker with eight, Todd Lockwood with seven and Thomas Matsouliadis with three. The Saints’ best players were Hagan Wright, Tyler Baker and Ben Warner.

Naracoorte battled as well as they could all game and were undermanned, but were able to score two goals as Dylan Albrecht and Zac Walker kicked goals during the game.

There are no games over the King’s birthday long weekend, and the league will start up again and ready for round nine.

The round nine fixture is: Kybybolite vs Mundulla, Keith vs Kingston, Naracoorte vs Border Districts, Padthaway vs Bordertown and Lucindale has the bye.
