Robe ruck stands tall as Mid South Eastern clubs lock down leadership lists

Star ruckman Tom Wachtel has been elevated to the role of A Grade coach at the Robe Football Club.

He follows Jack Kelly who relinquished the role after several seasons at the helm crowned with the 2018 flag.

Wachtel arrived at the seaside four years ago to take up a teaching appointment at Robe Primary School.

His A Grade appearance were limited that season on account of the player transfer points cap and he did not play in the premiership team.

The 2019 season was Wachtel’s breakout in the Mid South East Football League and he claimed the Mail Medal.

There was no MSEFL footy in 2020 and Wachtel was not 100pc fit for much of last season when the Roosters finished fourth.

One consolation for Wachtel was coaching the Robe senior colts to the premiership.

The Robe Oval has been busy over summer with a lighting upgrade and a COVID testing clinic for the public.

Brownlow medallists Gavin Wanganeen and Lachy Neale have been spied having early-morning runs there.

The MSEFL clearance list reveals star recruit Billy Laurie is having an off-season kick in Darwin.

The rumour mill suggests a key Robe player will line up with Penola in 2022.

Meanwhile, other MSEFL clubs are finalising their coaching positions.

Former Kalangadoo Football Club president Adam Box will coach the Magpies B Grade.

Glencoe has made three appointments: Nathan McEachern (B Grade), Ben Hentschke (senior colts) and Adam Price (junior colts).

The Mount Burr United Football Club has turned to Rob Francis (B Grade), Tim Little (senior colts) and Tom Hales (junior colts) to be their mentors.

Regarding player movements, Sam Gray has returned to Hatherleigh after two seasons with Millicent including the 2021 flag.

The Eagles have also welcomed former Murray South East sone representative Brad Mitchell.

The club has lost ruckman Sam Waring to Millicent.

The Western Border Saints have regained the services of Port MacDonnell forward Dylan Bromley.
