Gambier Central’s excitement to return to the Dycer Constructions Big Bash took a significant hit after the returnees took a battering from West Gambier in the competition opener last Thursday.
The orange army won the toss and enjoyed first use of the Malseed Park pitch and initially looked up for the challenge.
Jarryd Burston and Nicolas Brown got off to a steady start after navigating the first three overs at a run a ball.
But Sam Willis busted the dam wall with two wickets in as many balls which ignited the Roos rampage.
As Kyal Chapman also joined in on the fun the only batters to offer any fight were Hayden Sanders and Isaac Czaban.
The pair defied the home side for four overs until captain Sanders was caught and bowled by Josh Cornolo.
Sanders was the fifth wicket to fall, but the innings was all over less than five overs later as Czaban was left standard on 16.
Central lost its last six wickets for seven runs in a scorecard that contained five ducks and just three scores of double figures.
Willis did the most damage with 3/10, while Richard Crute, Chapman and Cornolo also claimed multiple scalps.
Despite chasing the poultry target of 64, West’s run chase did not go entirely to plan as Niall Easterbrook’s return to A Grade cricket latest just three deliveries.
But the home crowd had little to worry about as Blackwell and Crute mowed the total down in just 43 balls.
Blackwell got going with a second-ball six, while Crute tore apart Sanders for 20 runs from one over.
Blackwell and Crute ended the innings with 27 and 33 off 30 balls respectively to carry plenty of form and confidence into round 2.
