The Lakes Rotary Club is gearing up to deliver another fun filled OneFortyOne Blue Lake Fun Run on Sunday, November 26.
This year’s events will include the 3.2km Cave Gardens/Thugi Dash, 6.8km Mount Gambier/Berrin Run, 10.4km Blue Lake/Warwar Run and last year’s popular addition of the 21.1km Lakes and Craters Half Marathon.
The half marathon will start the day off at 7:00am followed by the 10.4km at 8:00am, the 6.8km at 8:15am and the 3.2km at 8:30am.
Every runner who finishes in any category will receive a medallion made from pine with $1000 worth of prize money awarded to the top three male and female competitors in the 21.1km Lakes and Craters Half Marathon.
Blue Lake Fun Run Committee chair Mark Praolini said registration numbers are looking positive with entrants attracted from interstate.
“Registrations are probably at a similar rate as we were last year,” he said.
“We are hoping to get back up towards 1000, last year we had 650 which was lower than what we normally have.
“We have got quite a number of people doing the 21km from outside Mount Gambier, we have got someone registered from Melbourne, someone from Victor Harbor/Encounter Bay area and Geelong area and in-between so that’s great.
“We have got the Mount Gambier Gift on the same weekend, so that’s probably a positive, people from out of town can come along and go to the Mount Gambier Gift as well as the Blue Lake Fun Run.
“It is very much a mixture across all age groups so it’s not skewed towards any particular group.
“Each of the events has got a reasonable amount of participants, there’s no real stand out.”
Mr Praolini said they are encouraging teams this year with incentives offered.
“We have got some teams that have nominated, we’re pushing teams this year but that’s a bit slow at this stage getting teams up and going,” he said.
“It’ll be great for workplaces to get together or gyms … to get together and submit a team for a bit of friendly rivalry.
“Once a team gets to 10 or more, we offer rebates of $5 per member so that’s a bit of an attraction.
“We’re also offering prizes in the team’s area for the best dressed team, the team that covers the most distance and a lucky team draw.
“There are shirts and singlets available which will need to be ordered by the end of next week.”
Mr Praolini said he would like to thank all the sponsors who have supported the event this year.
“Our naming rights is with OneFortyOne again, we have got Carlin and Gazzard as a gold sponsor which is absolutely fantastic, that’s great support as well,” he said.
“Big shout out to the Mount Gambier City Council as per normal, they provide great support in helping us getting the locations in place and giving us some expertise in the safety area and helping us with street closures.”
This year’s lanyard sponsors are Empak Homes, The Convent, UniSA and Illumident.
