Runners put ‘fun’ in fundraiser

The Coonawarra Running Festival is just under two months away and people will be ready to run through the renowned wine region while raising money for an important cause.

The inaugural event, held at Coonawarra Park, will raise funds for Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation and promote mental health awareness.

Coonawarra Running Festival committee member Sandra Wallis said the committee was getting excited for the event.

“It’s all looking really positive, we’re getting lots and lots of interest and lots of support,” Mrs Wallis said.

“Registrations are going really well, we’re really pleased with the number of registrations we have got already.

“We have got heaps of market stalls already booked in ready to come, we’re working on catering, there’s going to be lots of nice food there for people.

“We have been approached to see if we want to hold a show n shine as part of the festival, which we were really thrilled they wanted to join us, so it’s really added an extra interest to the festival.”

The festival is an all-inclusive event for runners of all ages and abilities with 21km, 12km, 6km or 1km distances and people can run, jog or walk their way to the finish line.

There will also be a ‘Mini Fun Run’ around Coonawarra Park for the little ones and a 5km ‘Wobbly Winery Walk’.

Ms Wallis said there had been lots of interest in the Wobbly Winery Walk, where people will stroll through the wine region and visit several wineries with stops at cellar doors for wine tastings.

The Beachport community also recently donated running shoes which will be used for decoration throughout the Wobbly Winery Walk.

Mrs Wallis said the committee was “thrilled” the event was receiving so much support and they were proud everything was going so well.

The committee are seeking volunteers for various tasks on the day of the event.
