Lake Leake farmer Owen Williams was one of the stand-out performers at the second annual Robe Runners event on Saturday.
He led the field of 131 runners home in the gruelling 21.1km half marathon.
His time of one hour and 17 minutes was over two minutes faster than the second place-getter.
As he was competing in the 35-39 years age group, Williams faced a number of much younger competitors.
Williams stands 195cm tall and this is a natural advantage.
He is also no stranger to seaside runs as he is a multiple winner of the Southend to Beachport beach run each January.
There was little time for sightseeing as the route took the runners through the Robe township and out to Long Beach.
In all, the Robe Runners event attracted more than 400 runners across various categories with the majority coming from out-of-town.
Among the locals to compete were Robe footballers in their distinctive red-and-white tops and Hatherleigh pair Joe Rayson and Tom Pegler.
Former Robe coach Tom Wachtel won the 5km fun run on Friday night with many of the minor placings filled by his teammates including current coach Nathan Brown.
Most races proceeded without incident but one female runner needed to be sent to the Kingston Soldiers Memorial Hospital for an assessment.
She was discharged and able to participate in the celebrations on Saturday night.
The Adelaide Trail Runners Club delighted the crowds when they announced the Robe Runners would also be staged in February in 2025 and 2026.
The February date is seen as ideal due to the good weather and there is locally a brief lull in the tourist season between the summer school holidays and the pubic holidays for Easter and Adelaide Cup Day.
