Service station secured

Millicent will again have a second manned service station in April.

This is the opinion of Wattle Range Council deputy chief executive Paul Duka about the fate of the former council-owned “servo” on Adelaide Road.

The business was closed five months ago by leaseholders Caltex/AMPOL with the loss of seven jobs.

Within a day of its August 4 closure, signage, most pumps and other fittings had been removed while 3m high security fencing had been erected around the perimeter of the site.

The 20-year lease between Caltex/AMPOL and freehold owners Wattle Range Council ended on October 31.

In the meantime, Caltex/AMPOL has remediated the site including the removal of soil and the underground fuel tanks.

Mr Duka gave an update at the January monthly council meeting following a question-without-notice from Councillor Dennis Muhovics.

He said council had successfully negotiated with another fuel firm K&S to buy the site and the sale had been completed late last year.

According to Mr Duka, K&S had informed him of a likely reopening date in April.
