Sharpshooter signs on with Pioneers

The OneFortyOne Pioneers have welcomed an exciting new signing for the 2023 NBL1 South season.

Twenty-two-year-old Miela Goodchild is an emerging star who played four seasons with Duke University in the US College competition.

Goodchild has had a wonderful start to her career representing Australia in Under 17, Under 18 and Under 19 and being highly awarded representing Duke University in the Atlantic Coast Conference with three years on the all ACC Honour Roll.

After returning to her home state of Queensland, she played the final seven games of the NBL1 North season for Mackay Meteorettes averaging 19.57 points and 5.86 rebounds per game.

Goodchild is in the top 10 in made threes in the program history at Duke University and is currently playing with the Melbourne Boomers in the Women’s NBL.

Pioneers head coach Matt Sutton is thrilled that Goodchild has signed to become a Pioneer for the 2023 season.

“I am very happy to have Miela join our program, she is very professional and passionate about her basketball and is another fantastic role model for all young athletes in our community,” he said.

“Miela has made a name for herself with her ability to shoot, but it’s her guard skills and effort on defence that makes her such a great fit for us, and I cannot wait to have her on board.”
