Show springs into action

It is suiting up to be a spectacular spring show season with the highly anticipated GEM Mount Gambier Spring Show back this weekend.

Last year’s show saw a record-breaking crowd with around 15,000 people walking through the gate over both days to create the largest crowd in the event’s 161-year history.

The show, which starts tomorrow, will include plenty of entertainment options such as magic, juggling and the return of high flying motocross action from Factory FMX, as well as the ever-popular Sideshow Alley.

Victoria’s Marisma Equine Entertainment will back in the region, following their performance at the Fantasy Medieval Show, to demonstrate jousting on horseback and equine tricks.

Hamilton’s Wicked Wildlife will make its first appearance with its wildlife petting zoo and there will be a course set up for Burrungule Park laser tag where people can enjoy the activity for free.

There will also be the Agricultural Learning Centre and Bunnings’ children craft at no cost.

Mount Gambier Agriculture and Horticultural Society immediate past president Danielle Tulak said show preparations had been in full swing.

“We have been putting it together for quite a few months now already so we have been locking in a lot of our major entertainment options,” she said.

“There is something for everybody. We recognise that it’s not necessarily cheap to come through the gates so just giving the opportunity of as many free entertainment and activities as possible once families get inside.

“We put on the event for the community, so it is never about making money for us. The people that do come and support us, hopefully they do have a lot to talk about and it is a success.

“There are unconfirmed reports but it should be our biggest year of dairy cattle that we have had for a very long time.

“It should be a really good show, we have got quite a few new sponsors on board this year as well so that’s really exciting to know that people in the community are keen to be involved.”
