Sides dig deep ahead of finals

It was the last of the regular rounds last Saturday at the Mount Gambier Netball Association as many teams dug deep for a top four finish in readiness for finals.

The junior game of the week was the Under 15 match between Hobitz Blue and Saints, exhibiting the young talent in netball in the region.

Saints had the game in their hands from the start, pressuring Hobiz from all ends.

The goalies for the game were Alice Mitchell, Kelsey Boneham and Jemima Paltridge who contributed heavily to the Saints power throughout the match up.

Aynslee Hayman and Taya Wright played a showstopping game of defence, the girls were hungry for the ball and fighting for possession after any missed opportunity.

The standout for Hobitz, and possibly for the game, was Neave Brooskby who was a dominating force on the court who was involved with almost every advantage the team achieved.

She knocked the ball out many hands and fought for Hobitz, despite the massive challenge her side faced.

Saints proved their strength and defeated Hobitz comprehensively 45-13.

Saints, Zodiacs, Hobitz Blue and Intruders will advance to the finals next week, knocking out Hobitz Red, Amazons and Vicis.

The senior game of the week was played between Amazons and Vicis in B1, and the former were all abuzz before the match.

Amazons started off strong and continued their dominance throughout the match up, while Vicis struggled against the tough defence of Emma McGregor, Monique Pearce and Elizabeth Crowe who made the game difficult for their opponents.

The standout player for the game was easily Cara Day who was seemingly unbeatable on the court with her endless leads.

Day was relentless in her pressure and even with a bent thumb injury during the third quarter, she rejoined her team on the court.

Amazons took the win, 27-9.

On the B1 ladder Hobitz, Amazons, Intruders and Saints will advance to the finals with Vicis being knocked out.

Hobitz and Amazons will play in the qualifying final while Intruders and Saints will face off in the elimination.
