Limestone Coast residents protesting COVID-19 restrictions have taken to the streets in silence for the latest Limestone Coast World-Wide Freedom Rally.
This gave local community members who wanted to stand up against the restrictions but felt intimated by speaking out in public, an opportunity for their voices to be heard.
Limestone Coast Freedom Protestor Maddy Fry said protesters were rallying for children, their health, education, their future and their livelihoods.
Demonstrators walked along Mount Gambier’s Commercial Street to the city’s rail lands however this time they stopped at the fountain monument for 10 minutes in silence to “hold their presence” and give the community a chance to question the inaudible protest.
Ms Fry said there was still a good turnout of protesters despite SA Country Fire Service declaring Saturday a severe fire ban due to the hot weather.
“The fight does not stop because it is hot, it does not stop because we are tired and it does not stop just because people are not listening,” Miss Fry said.
“By showing up in the heat today protesters have shown they are willing to fight because being outside when it is uncomfortable is one of the biggest struggles of all.
“When it is quiet and hard that is when we have to stand up and really make some noise.
“As a community there is no greater power then people power and whether we are silent or have our voices raised we have the ability to incite change.”
